THINK THIN, FIGHT FAT

Think Thin – Fight Fat

Think Thin/Fight Fat is a program designed for patients to learn the PSYCHOLOGY OF WEIGHT LOSS. Dr. Richardson begins with an assessment of the patient’s weight loss knowledge.

The Doctor evaluates the patient’s mental approach to weight loss. The patient’s conception of “I know how to lose weight” is an important aspect to explore. The common approach typically taken by the patient is one that utilizes diet tips and information learned from family, and friends. It is of paramount importance to have full insight and recognition to the source of this knowledge base. More importantly, it is essential to eliminate popular diet tips that have no effect on weight loss or to the opposite, create weight gain.

Many patients comment and exclaim, “I have tried everything!” The problem is that “everything” (weight loss information) comes from “EVERYBODY”. Feeling this way is the result of indoctrination that begins during our early formative years as children. Various assortments of weight loss tricks from family and friends. They tell us “what works” and “what doesn’t work”. This information continues to grow and have its influence from our peer group, i.e, our families, and friends. To make matters worse, the media throws in their “the good, bad, and ugly” information designed to sell magazines, while we wait in line at the cash register.

The doctor provides simple methods to help you develop a knowledge base for weight loss nutrition. Knowledge develops by the investigative use of your pocket size reference book The Calorie King Book. You are provided your own copy at the time of your initial office visit.

Patient education from early weight loss into continued weight loss allows the patients to broaden his/her knowledge of weight loss nutrition. The Doctor will know when the patient is prepared to pursue higher levels of knowledge into the expansion of food variety. He will help you expand your variety to promote continued weight loss. Expanding your variety of food avoids the problem of “burn-out” associated with restricted diets. Diets with limited variety will eventually give way to a return to the usual pattern of eating and subsequently weight gain.

The Fight Fat Concept

The “Fight Fat” concept allows the patient to keep their focus on #1 enemy, high content of fat foods at home and fast food restaurants. Learning this concept allows the patient to beat their enemy. To win the battle, the 1st thing that a General will tell you is “learn everything that you can about your enemy”. Knowledge of fat content is our #1 weapon to win the battle in our fight with obesity.

The role of the doctor in the aspect is to educate and verify that the patient is developing the correct motivational tools. Dr. Richardson will help you investigate and address your own specific needs for self-motivation. Your motivational skills will develop as you have progress with weight loss. Recognition on how to stay motivated is an incremental learning process. The latter process involves cognition behavioral therapy, to help you develop patterns of behavior for progressive and permanent weight loss.

The doctor will help you develop your final preparation as you get near your desired weight. This mental preparation is needed to make the transition from your goal of losing weight to maintaining weight loss. He considered his mission accomplished when you have proven to yourself that you can maintain weight loss.
